Advice for High Upfront Scorers in the Communication Style Questionnaire
High Upfront scorers
1. Try to show a genuine interest in other peoples’ feelings when you’re talking to them. Try to have the self-discipline to remind yourself of this before you start talking or before you go into meetings.
2. Let others speak before you do – don’t monopolise the conversation or interrupt people while they’re speaking.
3. Listen to other peoples’ point of view. They could have an idea or something to say that you need to be aware of. They might even be right!
4. Allow time for social ‘niceties’ at the beginning of a meeting or when you start a conversation. This might seem like time wasting to you but to some people it’s an important part of a discussion.
5. Accept that some people like to look at issues in more detail than you, so be patient and try not to look as though you’re rushing them.
6. Hold back your frustration if someone shows their emotion while you’re talking to them. Showing emotion is important for some people.
7. Take the time to show your appreciation if someone has a good idea.
8. Resist the temptation to use email to address sensitive issues.
